Rising Star Learning Center
Come Learn and Play.
Rising Star Learning Center was established in 1989 by Queen E. Grimsley, better known throughout the community as simply “Miss Queen.” Ever a devoted educator and nurturer, for nearly three decades she strove tirelessly to provide quality childcare and a nuturing educational environment for the children of Newark’s South Ward. In fact, many successful young black professionals in our community today had their start in the loving care and tutelage of Miss Queen. In addition to educating our community's children, Rising Star employed many young women within the community.
Nearly since it's founding, Rising Star has been a proud partner of the prolific charity organization Programs for Parents. We participate in the programs New Jersey Cares for Kids, and Work First New Jersey, and work in partnership with Community Coordinated Childcare (4C's) and The New Jersey Department of Children and Families (DCF), in providing childcare services for parents and guardians in the South Ward of Newark. These programs have allowed Rising Star to touch the lives thousands of parents and children over our three decades of service.
Miss Queen passed away in January of 2018, leaving it to us – her family - to carry on her legacy of love. To this day, Rising Star Learning Center remains one of the oldest, best known, black run Early Childhood Educational facilities in the greater in Newark area, and the state of New Jersey. With a storied history of success, we can assure you that your child is in the best possible hands attending Rising Star.
